WAEC Withholds 215,267 Results for 2024 Exams

The West African Examinations Council has withheld the results of 215,267 applicants for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

This percentage reflects 11.92% of the 1,805,216 candidates who took the exam.

The 2024 WASSCE began on Tuesday, April 30th, 2024 and ended on June 24th, 2024.

Dr. Amos Dangut, Head of the WAEC Nigeria Office, announced on Monday that the 2024 WASSCE results were withheld due to multiple documented incidences of test malpractice.

He explained that this statistic was 4.37 percentage points lower than the 16.29 percent achieved in the WASSCE for School Candidates in 2023.

Dangut emphasized that the Council will continue to discipline all examples of test malpractice, stating that schools, supervisors, teachers, and candidates who engaged in such tactics were damaging the educational system.

He stated, “The rising usage of mobile phones in the test hall, despite the current restriction, and organized cheating in some schools are other bothersome issues. All of the incidents are being investigated, and the findings will be given to the appropriate Council committee for review and final determination.”

He additionally reminded applicants that, “As WASSCE for School Candidates, 2024 results are being uploaded on the results website, candidates should, after checking their results online, apply for their Digital Certificates, which will be released 48 hours thereafter.”

He continued, “Candidates who have met their financial commitments to the Council will be able to view their results on the Council’s website within the following 12 hours. Copies of the Result Listing will be distributed to schools shortly.

The exam was administered in four WAEC member countries: Nigeria, The Gambia, Sierra Leone, and Liberia.
