US Urges Iran to End Attacks on Israel Amid Rising Tensions

The US urged Iran on Saturday to stop attacking Israel in order to break the cycle of conflict, after Israel launched attacks against the Islamic Republic in response to a missile bombardment.

We urge Iran to cease its attacks on Israel so that this cycle of fighting can end without further escalation,” US National Security Council spokesman Sean Savett told reporters.

On Saturday, the Israeli military launched air strikes against Iran, targeting military bases, missile sites, and other systems throughout numerous regions.
Their response was an exercise in self-defence and explicitly avoided inhabited regions and focused entirely on military objectives, contrary to Iran’s attack against Israel that targeted Israel’s most populous city,” he added.
He emphasized that the United States did not participate in the operation, saying that “it is our goal to accelerate diplomacy and de-escalate tensions in the Middle East region.”

According to a senior administration official, President Joe Biden and his national security staff have been working with the Israelis in recent weeks to push Israel to perform a targeted and proportional response with little danger of civilian injury.

And this appears to be exactly what happened this evening,” the person told reporters.

President Biden had urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to “design a response that serves to deter further attacks against Israel while reducing the risks of further escalation, and that is our goal.”
