United States Commits $203 Million to Tackle Sudanese Crisis

U.N. Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield stated that the United States has pledged $203 million in the hopes of preventing the Sudanese issue from spilling over into the area.According to the United Nations, around 9 million people have fled their homes, with more than 1 million leaving the nation.

Thousands have died in a battle overlooked by those in Gaza and Ukraine. We hope that this new round of aid will serve as a call to action for others to follow.

Partners will use this funds to build new homes for refugees or offer monetary support so they can pay their rent, and it will aid children whose lives have been disrupted by conflict in returning to school, among other things, Thomas-Greenfield told reporters in New York on Thursday.

Sudan’s war began a little more than a year ago, forcing tens of thousands of people to escape to neighboring Chad for protection.

The United Nations says it requested $2.7 billion in funding to react to humanitarian needs but only received $155 million, or 6%.

“My call is for those with authority over the warring parties to press them, to urge them to come to the table, because the Sudanese people will continue to suffer unless they do. “There is no military solution to this situation,” the ambassador added.
