Trump agrees to debate Harris on September 4

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said late Friday that he had agreed with Fox News to debate Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris on September 4.

“I have agreed with FoxNews to debate Kamala Harris on Wednesday, September 4th,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform, but it was unclear whether Harris had consented to the debate.

Trump’s statement came only hours after Harris was named the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee for the next November election.

On July 21, Trump’s White House bid was turned upside down when President Biden, 81, quit his candidacy in response to rising worries about his age and low polling numbers and endorsed Harris.

Biden withdrew after a terrible debate performance against Trump on CNN in June.

A second televised discussion between Trump and Biden was set for September 10 on ABC.

That was anticipated to remain in place, with Harris replacing Biden, but Trump’s spokesman Steven Cheung last week claimed it was “inappropriate” to arrange it before Harris was officially named the Democratic nominee.

In his post, Trump described the debate venue and moderators, stating that it would be held in front of a full crowd.
