Tinubu worried over Sokoto killings – Minister
The Federal Government has said that it will launch a comprehensive investigation into the unintentional bombing that killed ten people in the Gidan Bisa and Runtuwa villages of Sokoto State’s Silame Local Government Area.
Ahmad Aliyu, Sokoto State Governor’s Press Secretary, confirmed this in a statement issued on Friday.
According to him, the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, made the statement while paying a condolence visit to Governor Ahmed Aliyu in Sokoto.
Matawalle described the occurrence as very regrettable, and promised that a thorough investigation will reveal what transpired.
The minister also expressed optimism that justice would be served in the case.
“Mr President is worried by the unfortunate incident and he asked me to come and condole you over what happened,” Matawalle informed me.
According to the Minister, military aircraft might sometimes hit the wrong targets due to incorrect information provided while conducting operations.
He further stated that security assessments revealed that the area where the incident occurred was dominated by the Lakurawa robbers.
According to the DAILY POST, on Wednesday morning, a fighter jet struck two settlements in Sokoto State’s Silame Local Government Area by mistake.
He did, however, commend the military and other security forces for their dedication to keeping the state safe.
He praised President Bola Tinubu for his concern for the inadvertent bombing of two villages in the state.
Meanwhile, the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) blamed the death of approximately ten people on what it described as a secondary explosion.
Major General Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, stated that the deaths and injuries were the result of secondary explosions rather than direct strikes.
“Now, I spoke about secondary explosions. Because one of the targets was a logistic base of the terrorists in the community. When I mention a logistics base, I am referring to the armed caches and poles that were kept there.
According to the source, the air strikes caused a secondary explosion that resulted in the deaths of approximately ten people. However, only the Lakurawa terrorist groups were directly affected by the air strikes, and they were severely damaged.
