Thugs Harass Journalists and Beat Up Protesters in Rivers

According to a Channels Television correspondent, Deborah Agbalam was harassed by thugs while covering the #EndBadGovernance rally in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday.
A channel correspondent reported that a bunch of thugs positioned themselves immediately against the Federal Secretariat in Port Harcourt, threatening and chasing away protestors.

According to witnesses, two protestors were beaten before our journalist arrived, while police officers stood by and did nothing.

The thugs also surrounded and threatened our correspondent, claiming they were there to prevent any protests from taking place today.

The Federal Secretariat on the Port Harcourt/Aba expressway has served as a gathering point for demonstrators during the seven-day hunger strike to stop terrible government.

The inaction of over 20 police officers who watched these occurrences but did nothing raises concerns about the security and preservation of the right to protest in Rivers State.

When contacted, Rivers State Police Commissioner Olatunji Disu expressed worry about the incident and promised to conduct a comprehensive investigation to ensure accountability and prevent similar instances.

It should be noted that the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, who has visited the protest locations multiple times in recent days, has ensured that his troops stay professional while also maintaining peace and order among the demonstrators since the beginning of the protest.

Disu once handed light refreshments to peaceful demonstrators in Port Harcourt as a means of thanking them for remaining peaceful and law-abiding.

Wednesday marks Day 7 of the nationwide protest, which became violent in certain northern regions of the federation.
