Tanker Accident Causes Major Gridlock in Port Harcourt

A tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) has crashed under the Rumuokwuta flyover in Port Harcourt, causing traffic congestion.

Another tanker has been sent in to safely transport the product from the crashed tanker.

Police and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officers are on the scene to prevent citizens from attempting to scoop petrol and ensure that safety precautions are followed.

Motorists are encouraged to seek other routes because traffic in the area remains heavy.

Meanwhile, earlier today, gas station owners in Rivers State threatened to close their businesses over the claimed seizure of their tankers and the discharge of 130,000 liters of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), often known as diesel.

Francis Dimkpa, Chairman of the Petroleum Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) in Rivers State, issued the threat while addressing journalists in Port Harcourt.

Dimkpa explained that two tankers loaded with AGO were leaving the Onne Depot in the Eleme Local Government Area of the State when they were allegedly apprehended by troops from the 6 Division of the Nigerian Army and taken to their headquarters in Port Harcourt.

He stated that the group had met with the Nigerian Army and obtained an agreement that the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission would collect samples from the tankers for inquiry.
