Sophia Momodu Reacts: Lawsuit for Unpaid School Fees against Davido

The mother of Nigerian artist David Adeleke, also known as Davido, Sophia Momodu, has accused him of forsaking their child, Imade, for the last two years.
According to Naija News, Davido hauled Sophia into court to fight for custody of his first child, Imade.

Davido requests “an order granting joint custody of Miss Imade Adeleke to the applicant” in an initial motion that was submitted to the Lagos State High Court on April 17, 2024 by his attorneys, Dr. Olaniyi Arije, Okey Barrah, and others.

The singer further asks for “an order granting the applicant unrestricted access to Miss Imade, without hindrance.”

David Adedeji Adeleke is named as the petitioner in the lawsuit, which is designated LD/1587PMC/2024, while Sophia Momodu is named as the only respondent.

Sophia retorted with a statement dated June 22, 2024, released by Punuka Attorneys & Solicitors and Bimpe Ajegbomogun & Co., stating that Davido had chosen not to see their daughter since July 2022 and that she had never refused him the chance to do so.

She recalled that between 2014 and 2017 and 2020 and 2022, respectively, they had two periods of relationships in which Davido “provided financial support for their daughter, covering school fees, rent, and other living expenses.”

But after splitting up with Davido in 2022, Sophia said the musician had threatened her multiple times for refusing to give herself over to him sexually.

She went on to say that the artist had stopped paying his daughter’s bills since then, putting her in charge of paying for everything from rent to living and travel expenditures to medical bills and other associated charges.

She revealed that all of her attempts to formalize a co-parenting agreement with Davido have been in vain since the musician’s attorneys have continuously refused to work with her toward a compromise and have instead chosen to isolate her through the artist’s network and social power.
