Seven members of the same family perished in Runjin Barmo village, Kajiji District, Shagari Local Government Area, Sokoto State, after eating poisoned cassava.

Nura Bello, the state Ministry of Health’s Information Officer, verified this in a statement issued on Sunday.

According to the statement, the local head of the community, Muhammadu Modi, who reported the occurrence to the Commissioner for Health, Asabe Balarabe, said the victims ate the Cassava dish for dinner.

“The victims are the father, Abubakar, his wife, A’ishatu, and their five children,” the statement said.

Balarabe stated that government authorities were in the area to determine the reason of the tragedy and then communicate with the government for appropriate action.

The commissioner stated that the ministry would collect samples from one youngster who happened to be alive after consuming the alleged cassava meal.

She expressed her condolences to the persons affected by the sad occurrence.
