Protests: Seven buses burned in Yobe; curfew imposed in three LGAs

On Monday, seven public transit buses were burned in Potiskum, the headquarters of the Potiskum Local Government Area in Yobe State, as part of the #EndBadGovernance countrywide protests.

On Thursday, the busses were set ablaze at the local government administration in Potiskum.

An eyewitness told Channel Television in the North-East state that some people arrived in large numbers to sow mayhem but were promptly stopped by security forces.

Dungus Abdulkarim, spokesman for the Yobe State Police Command, confirmed the occurrence in Potiskum and stated that the offenders would be held accountable.

Protests against economic hardship began on Thursday, August 1, 2024, and are expected to last until August 10 across all states of the Federation, as well as the nation’s capital, Abuja.

Curfew Imposed
Meanwhile, the state government has enforced a 24-hour curfew in Potiskum, Gashua, and Nguru towns, where some hoodlums are using the demonstration to vandalise and loot government and private property.

Dairy Abdulsalam, the Special Adviser to Governor Mai Mala Buni on Security Matters, advised the general population to follow the curfew order and stay at home so that peace could rule in the affected districts and the state as a whole.

According to him, the security agencies have been directed to ensure enforcement and full compliance of the curfew order.
