Protest Freely in Abuja: Official Announcement by FCT Police

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has stated that Abuja citizens may demonstrate in the country’s capital city.
SP Josephine Adeh, FCT Police Public Relations Officer, stated that Abuja residents have the right to protest, and the police command will not impede individuals from exercising their rights.
Adeh stated on her X account on Friday night that demonstrators should bring police with them to ensure their safety. She said that police security for protestors would ensure that hoodlums would not hijack residents’ peaceful protests.

“The FCT police leadership does not prevent any citizens of the territory from protesting.

It is your legal right to protest, but please bring us along so that we can provide you with proper safety and keep the protest from being hijacked by individuals with ulterior goals.

“A breakdown of law and order in the name of protest will not be condoned in the FCT,” Adeh stated in a letter.

SP Adeh’s comment comes amid citizen protests as Nigeria’s economy struggles, food prices remain high, and inflation rises.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Kalu, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, has urged Nigerians to drop the protest plan.

Kalu stated that the demonstration was not the correct move for the country. He warned Nigerians not to imitate Kenyan citizens.
