Police Barricade Kaduna Government House Road During Violent Protest

The Kaduna State Police Command has barred the road to the state capital’s Government House.

This came after the violence that accompanied the #EndBadGovernance protests in several sections of the state on Thursday, as well as an attempted attack on the state’s Government House by hoodlums.

On Friday, a combined security squad was seen mounting tight surveillance along the road going to the state capital.

A team of police officers, civil defense personnel, and members of the state vigilance agency erected a blockade along the government house road to prevent hoodlums from entering the region and other nearby localities.

Meanwhile, police have urged parents and guardians to prevent their children from disrupting public order during the protest, warning them that such behavior will be treated seriously.

In a statement issued by the state police spokesman, Mansir Hassan, the Command recommended parties planning to protest to consult with the Commissioner of Police in order to devise mechanisms for peaceful protest.

“The somewhat peaceful protest has been hijacked by hoodlums who took undue advantage of the so-called faceless sponsors and unleashed their planned mayhem on the state,” according to him.

Consequently, the unruly miscreants attempted to gain access into the Kaduna State Government House before they were resisted by the security personnel at the said location, injured two policemen, broke the glasses of Police armoured personnel carrier stationed at the entrance of the Government House.

“They subsequently, attacked the office and staff of the Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Agency (KASTLEA) and torched the former along with adjoining other State Government offices.

“Twenty-five of these hoodlums were arrested, with evidence confirming their aggressive tendencies. The exhibits included scissors, a jackknife, and even live 7.62 X 39mm ammo recovered from Hassan Ibrahim of Rigasa, Kaduna. Similarly, one person was apprehended while dressed in a police camouflage suit for deception.
