Olympic Gold: Uganda’s Joshua Cheptegei, Morocco and Egypt Shine

Joshua Cheptegei, the new Olympic men’s 10,000 metres champion, intimated that he is likely to retire from track just minutes after earning gold in Paris on Friday.

The Ugandan set a new Olympic record on his route from silver in Tokyo to gold in Paris.

The 27-year-old also won the 5,000 metres gold in Tokyo and is the current global 10,000 metres champion.

Morocco defeated the United States 4-0 to go to the semifinals of the Olympic football event.

Soufiane Rahimi, Ilias Akhomach, Achraf Hakimi, and Mehdi Maouhoub scored goals at Parc des Princes to eliminate the United States’ hopes of winning a football medal at the Paris Games.

Morocco, who received enthusiastic support in the French capital, will face Spain in the semi-finals in Marseille on Monday.

Fermin Lopez scored once in each half as Spain defeated Japan 3-0 to get to the semi-finals of the men’s soccer tournament at the Paris Olympics.

Goalkeeper Hamza Alaa stopped Marcelo Perez’s penalty, and Egypt defeated Paraguay 5-4 in a shootout to advance to the semifinals of the men’s soccer competition at the Paris Olympics.

Ibrahim Adel converted the final penalty kick to seal Egypt’s victory after the sides tied 1-1 in regulation and failed to score in extra time.

France won 1-0 against Argentina and advanced to the men’s soccer semifinals at the Paris Olympics on Friday thanks to an early goal.
