Ogun Youths Raise Concerns Over Ado-Odo/Igbesa Governance

The Coalition of Ado-Odo/Igbesa Indigenous Youths complained on Tuesday the Ota axis’ long-standing domination in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government administration at the expense of Ado-Odo/Igbesa residents.

They contended that in order to be fair and equitable, the election for the local government chairmanship should have taken place between the axes of Ota and Ado-Odo/Igbesa, which comprise the council area.

The youth organization encouraged Governor Dapo Abiodun to fix this blunder in the state’s next LG elections by zoning the chairmanship ticket for Ado-Odo/Igbesa.

The group confirmed this in a statement signed by its Coordinator, Comr. Temitope Taiwo, and made available to our correspondent.

The statement added, “Since Nigeria’s restoration to democracy in 1999, the Ado-Odo/Igbesa state constituency has had minimal participation in the local government council, with only two instances: Hon. Musefiu Olatunji Lamidi and Hon. Abayomi Tella.

“This contrasts starkly with the Ota axis, which has enjoyed prolonged dominance, as evidenced by the tenures of the Late Dr Salami, Hon. Rotimi Rahmon Arúgbó elected, and Hon. Wasiu Lawal as caretaker Chairman, among others.” Most recently, Hon. Sheriff Musa Adewale (Sam 20) was elected, which confirmed this inequity.

The Ado-Odo/Igbesa state constituency has likewise experienced unfair distribution of development projects and resources. Under Hon. Sherif Adewale Musa’s leadership, 12 projects were commissioned, with just two allotted to the Ado-Odo/Igbesa state constituency region, one in Alapoti ward and the other in Lusada.

It further stated that the disparity necessitates immediate action to ensure that everyone benefits equally from the rewards of democracy.

“This stark disparity highlights the critical need for a more balanced approach to resource allocation, ensuring that all constituencies benefit equally from the dividends of democracy.”

“Community leaders and people are now calling on Governor Dapo Abiodun and other party officials to recognize the gravity of the issue.

“We request that the LG chairperson candidate for the next council elections be nominated from Ado-Odo/Igbesa. This would not only assist to correct past imbalances, but would also pave the path for a more inclusive and representative local administration,” the statement continued. The Ado-Odo/Igbesa state constituency has likewise experienced unfair distribution of development projects and resources.
