NYSC Hostel Collapses in Ekiti, Injuring Corps Members

Some Corps members stationed in Ekiti State were hurt when a hostel wall collapsed at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in the state’s Ise-Emure district.

The women’s section of the hostel fell on Friday morning, according to sources at the camp.

One of the sources confirmed that the wall of one of the female dormitories collapsed this morning (Friday). The bathroom wall caved in when they were about to take a bath.

“But, thank God, someone ran down to rescue them from the rubble. They have been stabilized at the clinic and will receive additional medical treatment.

The corps members are currently at the camp for a three-week mandatory orientation exercise for those assigned to the state.

However, a NYSC official who confirmed the occurrence stated that only two corps members were harmed and had been stabilized at the camp’s clinic.

He urged parents, guardians, and stakeholders not to panic over the occurrence, noting that it had no major consequences for the corps members.

Meanwhile, there have been complaints over the years about the poor condition of the structures at the state’s NYSC Camp, but no adequate renovations have occurred.
