Nine Pregnant Women Rescued from Abuja Baby Factory
Nine pregnant women were rescued from a baby factory in Abuja, the country’s capital.
The victims were rescued by officials from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the agency announced on Thursday.
According to NAPTIP spokesperson Vincent Adekoye, the baby factory is located on one of the huge estates in the Ushafa section of the Federal Capital Territory.
According to Adekoye, the raid on the facility was the result of a tip from a concerned citizen.
“The victims were locked up in a rented apartment inside the estate by a yet-to-be-identified suspected trafficking agent who recruited them through an online platform,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, NAPTIP successfully convicted and sentenced a renowned Abuja Bishop who raped a member’s daughter in March 2023.
He stated that a Federal High Court in Gudu, presided over by Justice Adebiyi Osolo, sentenced the rapist bishop to 20 years in prison without the option of a fine.
Kenneth Duke, a 52-year-old bishop, is claimed to have founded a major church on the Dantata Zuba Expressway.
He assaulted the 12-year-old victim on March 6, the day after she came at his house so that his wife could enroll her in a skills acquisition program.
“NAPTIP hauled the 52-year-old felon, a Cross River State indigene, to court for raping a 12-year-old girl (name withheld), the daughter of a church member entrusted to his family.
“In case no: CR/702/2023 Federal Republic of Nigeria Vs Bishop Kenneth Duke, the defendant was arraigned before Court 16 on 02/11/2023 on a two-count charge for the offence of rape and intentionally causing emotional and psychological abuse on the victim,” Adekoya told the tribunal.
Adekoya stated that NAPTIP Director-General Binta Adamu-Bello praised the judiciary for the momentous decision.
