NHRC Reports 265 Human Rights Violations in Yobe State

Between January 2024 and November 2024, the National Human Rights Commission documented 265 instances of human rights violence in Yobe State.

This was revealed by Labaran Babbangida, the State Coordinator of the NHRC in Yobe, during the state capital of Damaturu’s 2024 International Human Rights Day celebration.

Human rights abuses in Yobe State have increased this year. According to him, this occurs because people are more eager to seek restitution for rights violations and because public awareness has increased.

The violence in the BAY states of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe, as well as the economic collapse, have all played a role in the infractions.
According to Kalu Okey, a Programme Officer for Community Mobilization of the United Nations Development Programme, who read the UN Secretary-General’s speech, conflicts around the world are causing national laws to be disregarded and civic space to diminish.

In order to be safeguarded, he urged the government to defend the rights of the people.
