Militants IED Kills Police officers In Anambra

Unidentified gunmen detonated an improvised explosive device at Uruagu, a hamlet in Anambra State’s Nnewi North Local Government Area, killing two policemen.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, confirmed the event, saying it happened in the early hours of Thursday while the officers were on investigative duty.

The terrorists are claimed to have made a surprise attack on the police officers, resulting in a heated gun battle.

The assailant then reportedly threw an IED at the police team, which exploded and killed two cops instantaneously.

“During the exchange of gunfire, the hoodlums tossed an IED at the operatives, and it detonated, killing two of them on the spot,” according to a witness.

Ikenga said that a manhunt for the perpetrators has begun.

He reassured the public that the leadership was determined to bring the criminals to justice.

SP Ikenga stated: “The Joint Security Force has launched a manhunt for the armed men responsible for the murder of two police operatives during an investigation operation early this morning, October 3, 2024, at Uruagu, Nnewi North.”

“Preliminary indications indicate that the assailants opened fire when they saw the police unit and put an improvised explosive device into their operational vehicle. Unfortunately, two officers died in the line of duty, and the vehicle caught fire.

He requested members of the public, particularly eyewitnesses, to provide the police with any information that could benefit the current investigation.

“We urge the public, particularly those who witnessed the incident, to assist the police by providing information that could aid in locating the culprits.
