Man Utd Plans One-Year Extension for Harry Maguire
Manchester United have announced plans to extend Harry Maguire’s contract by one year.
Despite his earlier troubles under former manager Erik ten Hag, Maguire has made seven appearances for Ruben Amorim, giving him the opportunity to impress the Portuguese manager.
The 31-year-old has also worn the captain’s armband in matches against Newcastle since 2023.
“Amad is close, Harry Maguire, and we are going to activate our option,” Amorim stated in a press statement prior of Liverpool’s game at Anfield.
“I spoke with him [Harry] this morning and told him he needed to improve on the pitch because we need him a lot.
Amorim also agreed that the team was in desperate need of a leader, and the Englishman fits the bill but needs to enhance his performance on the field.
“He also has to strengthen his leadership skills. We’re all aware of his condition here, but we need him right now, so we’re going to cheerfully trigger the option for him.”
“When you look at our team, you’ll notice that we’re lacking in leadership on the field. He is a leader, and he needs to enhance that aspect, as well as his game, so we are pleased to continue.”
