Just in: Gunmen kidnap journalist’s wife and two daughters in Kaduna

Suspected kidnappers have kidnapped the wife and two daughters of Muhammed Bashir, a Kogi journalist.
They were one of ten members of the same family kidnapped on Thursday in Kaduna State.
Bashir’s wife and two girls came in Kaduna earlier on Thursday to spend the holiday with her family in a Kaduna suburb.

Bashir, a correspondent with the Nigeria Telegraph, told colleagues in Lokoja, Kogi State’s capital, on Friday in a brief statement.

“My dear colleagues, I need your prayers. My two kids and their mother, along with eight other people, were kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Kaduna yesterday while on vacation. “Please pray for me,” he posted on the Kogi Correspondents’ Chapel WhatsApp channel.

He stated that he had contacted the police and the Department of State Services and was told that action was being taken to rescue the victims and apprehend the kidnappers.

In other events, at least 30 people were reportedly slain in an attack on Ayati village in Benue State’s Ukum Local Government Area late Thursday night.

Local sources told The Punch by phone on Friday that the perpetrators, who included local bandits and suspected armed herders, launched a savage attack on the village.
