Ini Edo’s Journey with Fertility Issues and Surrogacy
Ini Edo, a popular Nollywood actress, has revealed the difficulties she faced before successfully having her child via surrogacy.
Ini Edo, who has a 3-year-old daughter named Light, revealed that she had difficulty carrying a baby to term and had to opt for surrogacy.
The actress stated that she tried IVF to get pregnant and had six miscarriages before deciding on surrogacy.
She shared her unique route to parenthood after being questioned about her child’s paternity on the reality show Young Famous & African.
Her co-star, Luis, inquired if she had a child, and she responded yes, she had a newborn daughter.
“Are you married?” she inquired.
“I’m not married,” Ini responded.
“Are you together with the dad?” Nadia questioned.
“No, I’m not,” Ini replied.
“Is he still alive?” said Nadia. Ini Edo responded, “I’m not sure.”
“Girl, is he dead or alive?” “It’s a yes or no question,” Nadia said.
“He hasn’t died. He has nothing to do with us. We’re only two people. Ini Edo responded, “Just me and my child.”
During her confession, Ini Edo stated, “My journey is one that I haven’t really wanted to talk about because it is personal.”
“I’m raising her alone,” Ini eventually told her co-stars. “I went through surrogacy.”
She continued: “There was no male in my life at the time, and I wanted to have a child. There are several approaches you can take.”
Later, Luis is seen discussing his studies into surrogacy and his readiness to try to have a kid through this means.
However, Ini Edo was taken aback and inquired as to why he was choosing surrogacy when he already had a partner.
“I don’t think surrogacy is something people just wake up and say that’s what they want to do,” Ini Edo shared.
During her confessional, she said, “I never imagined I’d have fertility troubles. However, I have had difficulty carrying pregnancies for an extended period of time.
“When it looked like it wasn’t going to happen the way I wanted and I wasn’t getting any younger, I thought, ‘What are my options? What is available to me?
“And then, this option came up, so I took it.”
“And I’m very happy with my decision,” she told her co-stars.
