Heavy Security Presence as Protesters Shun Ojota, Lagos

Business operations resumed in Ojota Lagos State on Tuesday, as the #Endbadgovernance protesters did not show up as predicted.

Tuesday marked the sixth day of the statewide demonstration against hunger and suffering, with a large presence of security forces on the ground.

Channels Television correspondents who visited Ojota on Tuesday said that no protesters were sighted at the assembly location.

Protesters disregarded President Bola Tinubu’s Sunday broadcast and gathered at Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park in Ojota on Monday to resume their demonstration.

After President Tinubu’s broadcast, Hassan Taiwo, Ayoyinka Oni, and Adegboyega Adeniji, on behalf of the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria Organising Committee, stated that the group reconvened on Monday since Tinubu’s broadcast did not address their requests.

They claimed they listened intently to President Tinubu’s broadcast on Sunday and “consider it rather unfortunate” that it took him three days of protest to address the nation.

Tinubu confirmed in a countrywide broadcast on Sunday that his administration was prepared to listen to and address protesters’ concerns, stating that he had heard their voices “loud and clear.”

“I hereby enjoin protesters and the organisers to suspend any further protest and create room for dialogue, which I have always acceded to at the slightest opportunity,” stated the US president.

However, the organizers stated that they view the choice to address the nation as a “important victory for our movement.”
