Governors Receive 20 Truckloads of Rice Each from FG
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, and the 36 member states of the Federation have each received 20 trucks full of rice from the federal government.
Following the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting on Monday, Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, made this revelation.
According to the minister, this is the first action the government is taking to alleviate the nation’s food crisis.
He pleaded with the governors to make sure that the most disadvantaged members of society received the grains in an efficient manner.
Meanwhile, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has released new data showing that Nigeria’s inflation rate set a record high of 34.19% for June 2024.
It was to be expected that food inflation increased in June 2024 compared to May 2024’s data.
In June 2024, the NBS report stated, “On a month-over-month basis, the Food inflation rate was 2.55% which shows a 0.26% increase compared to the rate recorded in May 2024 (2.28%).”The NBS claims that the increase in average food costs was the cause of this spike. These food products included tobacco, fresh catfish, croaker, mudfish, snail, etc. (fish class), water yam, cocoyam, cassava, etc. (oil & fats class), and so on.
