Governor Adeleke Calls for Peace & Tasks Military to Ensure National Stability

Senator Ademola Adeleke, Governor of Osun State, has called for peace and unity in Nigeria, while also urging the military and other security agencies to redouble their efforts to maintain national stability.

Senator Adeleke made the call while receiving Major General Obinna Onubogu, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Nigerian Army’s 2nd Division, in Osogbo.

The Governor, who met with the GOC for hours behind closed doors to discuss sustaining peace and stability, highlighted the need of military backing in ensuring the democratic process’s integrity.

The Governor thanked the Nigerian Army for its unflinching respect for democratic institutions and emphasized the importance of allegiance to national stability.

Governor Adeleke went on to say that in an era distinguished by concern and the preservation of lives and property, teamwork between the political class and the security sector is critical to ensuring adequate safety for citizens.

He informed the visiting military group that his government has taken all necessary preparations to ensure that Osun remains calm and conflict-free, despite planned statewide demonstrations.

Let me tell you that we have taken every essential step. We recently ended a stakeholders’ meeting, and we are all committed to maintaining peace and tranquillity in our state of the living spring,” the Governor informed the GOC and his delegation.

In his speech, Major General Onubogu, GOC 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Ibadan, stated that his visit to Osun State Governor Senator Ademola Adeleke marks a watershed moment in Nigeria’s road toward stability and unity.
His words were: “The visit not only signifies a reaffirmation of the military’s loyalty to democratic principles but also highlights the essential role of the armed forces in maintaining peace during turbulent times.”

He praised Governor Adeleke’s commitment to keeping Osun state the most peaceful in the country and restated the Army’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty and the safety of its people.

Major General Onubogu stressed the military’s duty in supporting democratic values and ensuring peace, particularly during rallies and demonstrations.

He went on to say that the relationship between the Nigerian Army and the Osun State administration serves as a model for sustaining peace and stability, ensuring that Osun remains a beacon of calm in the federation.
