Governor Abiodun Signs 3 Executive Orders in Ogun State

Three executive orders have been signed by Dapo Abiodun, the governor of Ogun State.
Two of these three are intended to establish two new organizations, and the third forbids traditional leaders from signing any memorandums of understanding (MoU) or agreements pertaining to land in the state.

This was revealed in a statement released on Saturday in Abeokuta by Kayode Akinmade, the governor’s Special Advisor on Media and Strategy.

The Ogun State Landscaping and Recreation Agency and the Ogun State Mineral Resources Development Agency were the two new institutions he highlighted.

The third Executive Order, he continued, forbids traditional chiefs from entering into agreements or signing memoranda about land disputes or mining within their own borders.

Akinmade went on to say that in order to undertake surveys on the earth’s crust and the geological formations of solid minerals in certain places, the Mineral Resources Development Agency will work with the local populations that surround the mineral resources.
The second agency is in charge of upholding the accomplishments made by the Ministry of Environment in the areas of environmental regeneration and restoration, as well as providing parks, gardens, and leisure facilities across the entire state in order to protect the environment’s ecosystem and biodiversity,” he continued.

The governor’s assistant claims that the three executive directives are effective right now.

Section 5(2) of the 1999 Constitution, which grants the governor the authority to utilize state executive powers for the aim of efficient governance, serves as the foundation for Executive Order One.

“The agency shall conduct and establish a working relationship with host communities and local governments for the conduct of geotechnical and geological surveys of solid mineral deposits within their domain, either directly or through qualified third parties.”It will organize the solid minerals sector in the state’s best interest, keep pertinent data in the field, and carry out geotechnical surveys of the state’s solid mineral reserves.

“The agency will be able to achieve its goals with the help of revenue from the regulatory body, budgetary allotment, grants and financial support from domestic and foreign development partners, as well as gifts, aid, and other acceptable contributions,” the government representative said.

Executive Order Two, according to Akinmade, was based on the Ministry of Environment launching a significant and active tree-planting effort in addition to the landscaping and beautification initiatives.
The statement went on to say, “The agency shall administer, maintain, and manage all designated parks and recreation centers in the state in order to ensure an environmentally sustainable, healthier, and beautiful society.”

“It will be financed through budgetary allotment or fees for services given, grants and financial assistance from domestic and foreign development partners, as well as gifts, aids, and other permissible contributions, in order to achieve its goals.

As a result, all traditional institutions that now exist in the state are hereby, effective immediately, prohibited from engaging into any kind of Memorandum of Understanding or agreement with any person, business, or organization that is looking to purchase land for mining or industrial purposes within any area of the state.

They must immediately stop issuing consent letters of any kind for mining operations throughout the state.

“Any traditional institution or institution stakeholder who violates this order will face consequences in accordance with applicable criminal statutes and the provisions of the Kings and Chiefs’ Law.”
