Gasoline Truck Explosion Near Uganda’s Capital Kills 11

Investigators gathered evidence at the scene in Kigogwa Town late Tuesday, including the recovery of the remains of victims of a fuel tanker explosion near Kampala, the capital of Uganda.

Following an accident, the vehicle crashed and detonated, killing at least 11 people, including two children.

Additional information was given by the Kampala Metropolitan North District Police Commander.

“A fuel tanker traveling on this Bombo Road was involved in a single accident. Whether the issue was with the car or the driver hasn’t been determined yet,” Moses Nanoka stated.

It was regrettable that our staff went to begin obtaining the fuel after an accident occurred here and the petrol began to leak out of the tanker. And because fuel is extremely combustible, it caught fire because a woman was roasting corn there. There are also homesteads, like the businesses you see, so we are unable to pinpoint the exact source of the fire at this time due to the volume of fuel that was present.

According to the authorities, the fire damaged four buildings that housed nine stores.

At the time of the disaster, the fuel tanker was traveling around 400 kilometers from Kampala to the northern city of Gulu.

In order to receive care, the injured were taken to adjacent medical facilities.

The affected individuals’ identities are yet unknown.

An onlooker posted a video online that seemed to show somebody removing fuel from the truck prior to the explosion.

The Ugandan police emphasized how crucial it is to use caution when handling dangerous substances.
