Fresh Insights on Police Sealing Emir Sanusi’s Palace
New information has surfaced about security personnel shutting the entrance to the palace of Muhammad Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, on Friday.
The Emir was supposed to place a district head in Bichi town, and the action was apparently taken to prevent a possible breakdown of law and order there.
Sources claim that the operation was triggered by intelligence indicating preparations by Bichi villagers to disrupt the installation, even though the Nigeria Police Force has not yet made an official statement on the subject.
A source, who spoke on condition of anonymity with Nigerian Tribune, said, “Residents of Bichi town were allegedly planning to prevent the installation from taking place. Security operatives acted swiftly to maintain peace and order.”
The move also reportedly discouraged eminent personalities from visiting Bichi for the event.
The installation of a district head in Bichi has sparked discontent among locals, who perceive the move as a demotion of their town’s status.
Some residents argue that while other towns affected by the dissolution of the five Emirate Councils established by former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje now have second-class emirs, Bichi was excluded and relegated to being ruled by a district head.
According to certain stakeholders, the police action was required to stop the situation from getting worse and turning into a serious crisis.
Movement was essentially restricted as highly armed police officers blocked the Kofar Kudu gate to the Emir’s residence around 7 a.m. on Friday.
The development highlights the lingering difficulties within Kano’s traditional authority after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf dissolved the five Emirate Councils.
The Emirate is divided as a result of the restoration of Emir Sanusi II and the reorganization of established hierarchies.
