DSS Raid on Suspected Terrorist’s Home in Niger State – Firearms Seized

The target of the operation was identified as a terrorist group’s storekeeper.

The Department of State Services (DSS) found weaponry and money during an operation at the home of a suspected terrorist in the Gbeganu region, a suburb of Minna, Niger State’s capital. The daytime operation, which was purportedly carried out on Wednesday, terrified the people of the neighborhood.

According to Daily Trust sources, this was the third raid in less than four years in the neighboring areas of Nkangbe and Gbeganu, both in the Bosso Local Government Area.

The target of the operation was identified as a terrorist group’s storekeeper.

Though details regarding the recovered weapons were not given, residents told the newspaper that a large sum of cash, including dollars, was discovered during the raid.

The suspect was apparently known as a tricycle rider before the raid revealed his alleged terrorist activity.

Previous instances include a raid in the area in October 2023, in which a suspected terrorist engaged security troops in a gunfight before fleeing.

Another raid occurred in June 2021, when a residence linked to a kidnapper was demolished after firearms were discovered.

However, when reached, Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, stated that the police had no information about the current raid.

“I’m not aware of any reports of such, you may verify further from DSS,” was the reply.

Peter Afunanya, the DSS spokesperson, did not react to SaharaReporters’ attempts for comment or confirmation of the report, disregarding both text messages and phone calls.
