CBN Speaks on the Withdrawal of Licences of Unity Bank and Keystone Bank

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has disputed claims that it is removing the licenses of Unity Bank and Keystone Bank.
According to Naija News, a circular supposedly from the CBN circulated on social media, instructing all impacted clients to withdraw their money from banks using an automated teller machine (ATM) card or transfer their funds to another bank before it’s too late.
The circular stated, “The CBN has withdrawn the licences of Heritage Bank, Unity Bank, and Keystone Bank, respectively.”

“All impacted customers should try to withdraw all of their money there using an ATM card or transfer it all to another bank before it is too late.

“Please share this information with our coworkers, family, and friends. “Let’s help others.”

However, in a tweet on its X account, the CBN denied releasing a circular announcing the removal of bank licenses.

The CBN claimed the viral circular was a forgery intended to mislead the people.

The message stated, “This is intended to mislead the general public.” It has nothing to do with Nigeria’s Central Bank. Please be guided.”
