Atalanta President Discusses Ademola Lookman’s Future
Atalanta President Antonio Percassi has indicated that Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman will not leave the club during the January transfer window, despite increased interest from many prominent European clubs.
Ademola Lookman has emerged as a highly sought-after player in Europe, thanks to his remarkable performances for Atalanta last season and strong start to the current season.
With his recent game-winning goal in stoppage time against AC Milan, Lookman made a huge contribution to the squad. His season totals now stand at eight goals and four assists in 12 Serie A games and 10 goals and five assists in 17 games across all competitions.
Atalanta is considering extending Lookman’s contract to enhance his compensation in order to secure his future with the team. This shows their dedication to keeping the 27-year-old forward, whose current contract expires in 2026.
“Our plan is not to change anything in the January window,” stated President Percassi, restating the club’s plans regarding Lookman’s future.
Elite teams like PSG, Manchester United, and Real Madrid have taken notice of Lookman’s outstanding play and acknowledge his worth.
Lookman has stated a strong sense of team spirit and stated his desire to stay at Atalanta at least until the end of the season as the squad continues to play well in Serie A, currently leading with 34 points and making progress in the Champions League.
It’s a crucial matchup against a formidable squad that is winning the league. We put on a strong performance, won three crucial points, and will keep doing so,” Lookman told Sky Italia. He underlined how crucial it is that they keep their current shape, saying,
We stick together and carry on in this manner because we have faith in our abilities as a team.
Given his obvious skill, Atalanta values Lookman between €60 and €70 million, which is in line with the goals of teams like PSG and Manchester United.
Lookman’s rise has been noteworthy since he moved to Atalanta in 2022 for €15 million. He became the first player to accomplish this feat in a European Cup final last season when he scored a historic hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League final.
His remarkable achievements have not gone unnoticed, as evidenced by his 14th-place finish in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings and nominations for prestigious accolades, including the CAF Men’s Player of the Year and the Globe Soccer Awards’ Best Men’s Player.
