Tax Reforms: Tinubu Calling For Anarchy, Says Gov Bala Mohammed
The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has urged President Bola Tinubu to backtrack on the tax policy reforms as it could lead to anarchy. The Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, has urged President Bola Tinubu to backtrack on the tax policy reforms as it could lead to anarchy.
On Thursday, he made the announcement during Bauchi’s Christmas Day festivities.
He claims that the program does not benefit the North and that the governors will be unable to pay their salaries. He stated, “The tax reforms are not a good idea for northern Nigeria because we would not be able to pay your salary.
“They must listen; otherwise, they are asking for anarchy, which is not desirable. We voted for the president in our state and other ones.
“They must listen to us!” They must not create a policy that benefits only one state in the country.
“This isn’t about religion. It isn’t about tribes. It’s about national unity. It is about national hegemony.
“We are all about good leadership, and we will continue to urge them for the time being; nevertheless, if the issue persists, they will show our true colors. “We will fight for it.”
He also urged Christians to pray for Nigeria.
According to him, religion should not be used to separate people.
He stated, “We join our Christian brothers in celebrating this day, Jesus Christ’s birthday. And we, as the Bauchi State government, take this opportunity to thank the people and the Christians for their years of support, particularly for my dear party, the PDP, and my humble self.
“Even while I was in the ANPP, Christians supported me and voted for me, despite my limits and inadequacies.
“I appreciate your ongoing support, including when we returned for a second term. You deserve to be appreciated because you have earned it.
“You are my brothers and sisters because I am a unique type of individual. The majority of you are my tribesmen.
“We come from the same source; we just believe differently. You are free to practice your religion. I’m free to practice my religion. Religion imposes no coercion.
“I ask you to pray for Nigeria. Pray for all of Nigeria’s leaders, including my humble self, for Nigeria needs prayers. We are having a lot of troubles. There is plenty of wahala. There is a lot of wrath, and we need to pray to God to remove it. We have to say it, but it is not meant to offend anyone,” he remarked.
Gov Mohammed’s plea comes in response to various economic measures implemented by Bola Tinubu’s administration that have caused hardship for the populace.
During the presidential media chat Monday night, Tinubu stated that the tax revisions were permanent.
He insisted that his administration’s tax measures will not be reversed.
“Tax reform is here to stay we cannot keep doing what we have done before and expect a change,” according to the president.
“The purpose of the tax measure is to eradicate the assumption of colonialism. I was formerly the governor of Lagos State, which is today a vast state that is continually expanding. The highest real estate value is there; you must accommodate all of that and factor it into your economic calculations.
When asked about the critiques of the proposed changes’ value-added tax increase, the president stated that a situation without protest is impossible.
“You cannot satisfy uniformly a larger community of tax invaders,” he told me. We only ask that the tax net be expanded, the cake be larger, and we be able to share a larger dinner. They will still request this consultation, no matter how long I delay it.”
He stated that the ability to accomplish what has to be done at the appropriate moment is a defining characteristic of a strong leader.
“That’s my philosophy you have given me the mandate to govern let me govern within the limit of my capacity and I believe I have the capacity I believe so that’s why I went into the race.”
“I’m focused. I understand what Nigerians require, and I know what I must do for them. It will not be El Dorado for everyone, but the new dawn has arrived. I’m persuaded, and you should be, too. “You should help spread that convention,” he stated.
