Ibadan stampede: Naomi’s mother laments ex-queen’s detention, appeals to Tinubu
Mrs. Funmilayo Ogunseyi, the mother of Naomi Silekunola, a former wife of the Ooni of Ife, has urged President Bola Tinubu and other Nigerians to intercede in her daughter’s legal issues.
Silekunola is one of three people brought before the Iyaganku Magistrate Court in Ibadan in connection with a terrible funfair stampede that killed 35 children last week.
The court has already ordered the accused’s remand to prison on allegations of conspiracy, careless conduct causing harm, and failure to provide proper security and medical services for the event.
Mrs. Ogunseyi begged for forgiveness in an emotive video that has gone viral, claiming that her daughter’s goals were solely humanitarian.
According to her, Naomi has organized various outreach programs in Nigeria over the last decade to help the underprivileged, elderly, children, and pregnant women.

She mourned that her daughter’s generosity had unintentionally contributed to the stampede and consequent deaths.
Have mercy on me. Mothers show mercy. Come to my rescue. Do not let my life be wrecked. My child merely came to Ibadan to aid the destitute; it wasn’t her first visit. We’ve flown across the country to help children and the disadvantaged. I grieve with the families who have lost children; this was never our aim. Please don’t confine Naomi. She is innocent. She only came to show compassion,” Ogunseyi said tearfully.
