Brown Ideye, 2013 AFCON Champion, Joins Enyimba
For an undisclosed cost, Super Eagles AFCON 2013 winner Brown Ideye has agreed to sign a contract with Enyimba, the nine-time Nigerian Premier Football League champions, till the end of the current campaign.
Ideye will play for the People’s Elephant, according to Ifeanyi Ekwueme, the sporting director of Enyimba and a former forward for the Super Eagles.
He agreed to play for us after we had been talking to him about it for a few weeks. Enyimba remarked, “We are thrilled to have a legend in our club.”
“We think Ideye will improve our team’s attack as we compete in the league and the continent, and he will be with us until the end of this season.”
Following former Super Eagles colleagues Ahmed Musa and Abdullahi Shehu, who are currently with Kano Pillars in the Nigerian elite division, Ideye is poised to make a comeback to Nigeria’s top flight after being without a club since leaving Kuwaiti team Al Yarmouk in 2022.
Ideye will also be making his domestic comeback with this move, 17 years after he departed Ocean Boys in 2007.
In 2006, the 36-year-old and Ocean Boys won both the league and the cup.
In October, he was about to sign with Rivers United, the former league winners, but the deal fell through.
In the next five days, Enyimba will play two games that are essential to their domestic and continental goals: on Wednesday, they will play Sunshine Stars in a rescheduled Nigeria Premier Football League match, and on Thursday, they will travel to Maputo, Mozambique, to play Black Bulls in their third group match of the CAF Confederation Cup.
