Fire Destroys Seven-Story Building in Lagos Affecting Shops

A seven-story building in Lagos caught fire, affecting several shops.

The event occurred early Friday on Sanni Adewale Street in the Lagos Island Local Government Area of the state.

Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, confirmed the event in a statement, saying firefighters from the Ebute Elefun, Sari, and Lekki 1 stations were despatched immediately after receiving a distress call and arrived at the location by 5:33 a.m.

She said the fire, which began about 5:17 a.m., sparked panic in the area as residents fled for safety.

However, emergency officials were on the scene to extinguish the fire, which damaged property worth millions of naira.

As of press time, no casualties had been reported.

“Thanks to the quick operations of Lagos State Firefighters, the situation is currently under control. Ventilation operations are currently underway to safeguard the safety of everyone in the region,” Adeseye explained.

“Preliminary studies indicate that the fire was caused by an electrical surge. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.”

Initial findings indicate that the fire was started by an electrical surge. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
