Egypt and Turkey work together to address the Gaza situation

During a joint news conference in Cairo on Monday, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said that their countries’ authorities are considering all options to prevent Israel’s war in Gaza from turning into a more significant regional conflict.

According to the ministers, they also discussed ways to reduce tensions in the area, especially those brought on by the Israel-Hamas dispute.

Egypt’s foreign minister, Badr Abdelatty, expressed his extreme condemnation of the escalation of regional conflict, murder techniques, and violations of other nations’ sovereignty.

He emphasized the urgent necessity of taking coordinated action to halt this dangerous escalation and prevent the situation from worsening and turning into a full-fledged regional conflict.

They discussed the Gaza conflict, the situation in Libya and Sudan, the instability in the Red Sea, and the issues in Yemen.

According to Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, “Turkey is actively observing Israel’s trial at the International Court of Justice.” He emphasized that Turkey has chosen to intervene in this case and intends to file its application with the court on Wednesday. He claimed that establishing a Palestinian state is the path to Middle Eastern peace.

Turkey is one of the most vocal critics of Israel’s operations in Gaza.

Fidan also said that Israel is undermining peace endeavors.

Both countries are asking for a cease-fire in Gaza and have condemned recent killings, notably that of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

Fidan also met with Egypt’s President, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. This visit is a key step toward restoring relations between the two countries after a lengthy period of animosity.

For nearly a decade, diplomatic relations between Ankara and Cairo had been tense.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had previously supported Egypt’s former Islamist leader, Mohammed Morsi, who was deposed by the military following major protests in 2013.

In recent years, Turkey has adjusted its posture toward el-Sissi’s administration in an effort to repair the strained relations.
