Kenyan Court Approves Extradition of US Murder Suspect

A Kenyan court on Thursday ordered the extradition of a man suspected of killing his girlfriend in the United States.

Kevin Kang’ethe will stand trial in Massachusetts in November 2023 on first-degree murder charges in the death of nurse Margaret Mbitu.

Her body was discovered with several stab wounds in his SUV in a garage at Boston’s Logan International Airport, two days after her family reported her missing.

Police claim he flew from Logan to Kenya the day before Mbitu’s body was discovered.

He was apprehended in Kenya three months after the murder and detained, but escaped in a minivan barely one week later.

Kenyan police conducted a manhunt and inquiry, eventually locating him down to a relative’s home in Nairobi, where he was arrested again.
They also arrested four police officers, two of the suspect’s relatives, and a lawyer who they accused of helping with the prison break.

Prosecutors in Nairobi stated that when Kang’ethe was caught, he was found with Mbitu’s driver’s license, Bank of America debit card, and visa card.
