Zelensky calls Biden’s blunder with Putin a “mistake.”
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed US President Joe Biden’s blunder on Saturday, stating that “we can forget some mistakes” and that he misidentified him as Russian adversary Vladimir Putin.
Zelensky informed reporters at Shannon Airport that “it’s a mistake” as he kicked off his tour of Ireland. I believe that the United States supported Ukrainians greatly. I believe there are some mistakes we can move past.
It will be Zelensky’s first bilateral meeting on Irish soil when he meets Irish leader Simon Harris at the airport later on Saturday.
“First of all, thank you so much for your support. Thanks to Ireland for hosting a lot of Ukrainian refugees, you were with us from the very beginning of the Russian invasion,” Zelensky stated when asked what message he would like to send to Ireland.
During the discussions, Harris is anticipated to state that Ireland supports Ukraine’s application to join the EU.
Zelensky is stopping in while traveling back from Washington, where he was present at a summit commemorating the 75th anniversary of NATO.
The 81-year-old Biden made the error at the meeting before swiftly rectifying it.
As he unveiled a NATO-Ukraine compact, Biden remarked, “And now I want to hand it over to the president of Ukraine, who has as much courage as he has determination, ladies and gentlemen, President Putin.”
After a moment, Biden turned his back on the podium and said, “President Putin! Putin will be defeated by him. President Zelensky: We need to worry about it since I’m so intent on defeating Putin. In any case, Mr. President.
Zelensky joked right away that he was “better” than Putin, but the episode raised more questions regarding Biden’s mental capacity and advanced age.
In November, Biden has reaffirmed his commitment to seeking reelection.
