This week’s prices for tomatoes, peppers, rice, and other food commodities
A few days after the Muslim celebration of Eid-il-kabir, the price of food commodities such as tomatoes, pepper, rice bags, beans, garri, and other items remains high.
According to Naija News, a large basket of tomatoes that cost ₦17,000 in early January now sells for ₦65,000, while a bag of peppers that cost ₦10,000 now sells for ₦52,000.
According to sources, a small painter bucket of tomatoes used to cost ₦1,000 to ₦1,500 is now worth ₦8,000 to ₦10,000. Similarly, a small painter bucket of pepper used to cost ₦600 is now worth ₦4,000.
As food prices rise, cassava flakes, also known as garri and rice, have risen by more than 50%.
In April, a cup of garri cost ₦150, but now sells for ₦250. A five-liter paint bucket costs between ₦4,000 and ₦4,300.
A 50kg bag of foreign rice now costs between ₦95,000 and ₦100,000, up from ₦70,000-75,000 previously.
