Wike Attacks the NBA, Falana, and Requests for the Release of the Rivers APC Attorneys

Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State, has criticized Yakubu Maikyau, the head of the Nigerian Bar Association, and human rights attorney Femi Falana for their calls for the release of All Progressives Congress (APC) attorneys who have been detained in the region.

The three APC attorneys are believed to have been working on a petition for Rivers APC in the March 18 governorship election when they were reportedly detained on Saturday, April 1 at a hotel in the state.

Falana requested Usman Baba, the IGP, to order the release of the lawyers while Maikyau denounced the detention.

The lawyers were detained on suspicion of forgery, according to the Rivers State Police Command, but freed hours later.

In a media event that was streamed live from Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Wike said that the police ought to have been urged to look into the attorneys.

If you have information that someone is producing INEC documents in a hotel and the police are detaining them, the governor added, “There is nothing wrong with that.”

“What we anticipated was that the police would look into whether or not the INEC documents were actually printed. acceptable for individuals to claim, “They went and arrested lawyers who were drafting petitions for elections.

According to him, it is imperative to take proactive measures to guarantee that any suspicious activity is stopped in its tracks when there is information to support it.

“Does it mean that since you claim that lawyers committed the crime, they cannot be arrested? Naturally, I don’t consider Femi Falana to be credible. The lawyers must be released, according to a statement from the NBA president. It was really unexpected,” he stated.
Why not state something like, “Police, if you say you arrested lawyers believing that you have intelligence on this, we’re providing you within 24 hours to make sure they are charged to court or you come out with a report.

The governor commanded that people refrain from interfering with police inquiries.

The NBA president is aware that his own administration is struggling, so he remarked, “You can’t use us to gain favor with lawyers.”

Hence, the only way they can demonstrate their success is by publicly requesting the release of the attorneys.
