AFC 23 Question: Super Eagles Redemption Versus Guinea-Bissau

As they go to Guinea-Bissau for the second leg of the match, the Super Eagles will be looking to move over their humiliating loss to the Wild Dogs of Guinea-Bissau in the Group A 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.

Francis Uzoho was placed in a dangerous situation after a goal from Mama Samba Balde in the 29th minute kept Nigeria in an uncomfortably low second place on the log-table.

Despite the defeat, Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has urged composure and attributed the home loss to bad luck for his sixth defeat while leading Nigeria.

After the game, he commented, “We missed numerous goals. “We could have stayed here for a further hour without scoring. In football, it can happen occasionally.

Naturally, I’m unhappy, just like the rest of my team, but they gave it their all.

On Sunday, the 2013 AFCON champions left Abuja for Guinea-Bissau in preparation for the second leg match.

The team was seen leaving Abuja for the encounter at the Stadium 24 de Setembro in Bissau in a video posted on the team’s social media channels.

For the rematch on Monday, Peseiro is anticipated to make a number of changes, including the inclusion of West Bromwich Albion player Semi Ajayi in place of the injured Kevin Akpoguma, who suffered a facial injury.

Calvin Bassey will be his defensive center partner.

Kelechi Iheanacho will be replaced with a striker like Terem Moffi of OGC Nice. He and Victor Osimhen of Napoli will direct the Super Eagles’ offense.

Time for Guinea-Bissau vs. Nigeria
This will be the third time the two countries have faced off; the Super Eagles prevailed 2-0 in the first encounter in the 2021 AFCON championships in Cameroon.

With seven points, one more than the Super Eagles, Guinea Bissau leads Group A. After beating Sao Tome & Principe on Sunday, Sierra Leone is third with five points.
